The Menin Road Experience

The Menin Road is one of those mythical names connected to the Ypres Salient. During the war it was a main route from and to the front for both Allied and German soldiers. A visit to the different sites of the Menin Road gives you the perfect story of the Great War: the German advance, the gas attacks, the use of flamethrowers, the mud of the Battle of Passchendaele, mining, ... and so much more.

Leaving from the city centre of Ypres, we drive to Geluveld to relive the story of the Worcestershires on the 31st of October, 1914. We then follow in the footsteps of the German advance towards Zandvoorde and the Royal Household Cavalry Memorial. Back on the Menin Road we follow in the footsteps of the attack of the Prussian Guards on the Nonnebosschen. We'll visit the Black Watch memorial, pass Clapham Junction and the grounds of Hooge Chateau, where the first mining of the war took place and where the Germans also used their flamethrowers for the first time. At Bellewaerde Ridge we learn how the British retook the high grounds in June 1915. The tour also brings us to Hill 62 and Sanctuary Wood, where we relive the Battle of Mount Sorrel (2-14 June 1916). The tour ends with a visit to the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing.
