As a young boy Bert Degrauwe (°1979) went to school in Passchendaele and was bedazzled by his teacher’s stories on the Great War. It was there that Bert grew a passion for military history. He started reading books on the war, went on tour with local guides, discovered the internet as an immense source of war stories and eventually decided to take courses on battlefield guiding. Bert started guiding in 2011 but has since grown as battlefield guide.
Bert is happily married and has 3 amazing sons, and he still lives in Passchendaele. He feels supported by his family in his passion: battlefield guiding. Bert is also the secretary of the Brothers-In-Arms Memorial Project team and is part of the team organising commemoration activities about the former German airfield in Wevelgem.
